Book Author Tells Story Of Guys Who Died Trying To Save DIMEBAG

July 18, 2007

Gregory L. Van Vorhis of Sentinel-Tribune reports: "There is always a focus on the bad guy. You know who Dahmer is, who Gacy is. Can you name one of their victims," asks Chris Armold, who goes by the name Chris A. on the cover of his book "A Vulgar Display of Power: Courage and Carnage at the Alrosa Villa".

The same question goes for murderer Nathan Gale. Here, there is a difference, because fans of metal music can immediately identify Gale as the murderer of legendary metal guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, formerly of PANTERA.

Here is where Armold drives home his point. Can you name the other three people who were shot and killed that night? No? They were Jeff Thompson, Nathan Bray and Erin Halk.

And while the book will most likely gain its notoriety through the Abbott name, the book is not about Abbott. It contains some uplifting memories of him written by friends and fans, but it does not delve nearly as deeply into his personal life as it does of the lives of Thompson, Bray and Halk.

"Dime's celebrity overshadowed these other guys," said Armold. "They were killed because they got involved. They knew they were in incredible danger. I was more interested in telling the stories of the guys who died trying to save (Abbott, along with his brother and bandmate, drummer Vinnie Paul). If you want to read a biography about Dimebag, this ain't it."
